Prize Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research

The Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research Prize was launched on the 24th of April 2003 via a cooperation agreement signed by the University of Seville and the Focus Foundation.

This prize was set up with the goal of valuing, sharing and perpetuating the memory of such an illustrious personage in Seville’s society as Javier Benjumea Puigcerver, whose prestige is undeniable and whom the University of Seville awarded the title of "Doctor Honoris Causa".

The prize is targeted at holders of doctorates, Bachelor’s degrees and diplomas from the University of Seville, or people who are or have been linked to this university. The purse for the prize is 18,000 euros, and it comes with a diploma accrediting the award as well.

The committee charged with choosing the winning study is made up of the President of the Social Council, the Dean of the University of Seville, the Vice Dean for Research, two members of the Social Council and two members named by Focus. This committee will appoint a Qualifying Committee which shall analyse the content of the proposals, grade them and propose the project they have chosen to the committee.

  • The eleventh Javier Benjumea Puigcerver Research Prize was awarded to Manuel Romero, profesor of Medicine at the University od Seville, for his work "DEMELI: Detección de lesiones hepáticas de origen metabólico usando el análisis óptico de imágenes de resonancia"
