De Herrera a Velázquez. El primer naturalismo en Sevilla exhibition stands for the reconstruction of the historic memory and surroundings of artistic activity in Seville between the years 1600 to 1630. Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez and Benito Navarrete were the curators for the exhibition, which started in the Hospital de los Venerables (Seville) in 2005 and was held later in Bilbao Fine Arts Museum in March 2006, and that brought together works which entailed one of the greatest moments in 17th century European painting, when artists such as Velázquez switched over to Naturalist painting techniques and, as a result, they revolutionized Spanish painting through their modernity and analytical accuracy. The exhibition displayed masterpieces by Velázquez, Caravaggio, Zurbarán, Ribera, Herrera el Viejo o Alonso Cano, on loan from Museo del Prado, National Gallery, Ermitage, Berlin Museum, and Chicago Art Institute, among other institutions, as well as from private collectors.

Edition and scientific direction by Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez and Benito Navarrete Prieto.
