A great deal of stone lions aimed to guard graves still remains from the Roman occupation period of Andalusia. These sculptures were the result of new burial customs brought to the area by the Romans and, consequently, most of them can be found in the Guadalquivir river valley. Co-published by our Foundation and Estudios Romanos Foundation, this book includes a broad catalogue of pieces –some of them unknown– as well as a comparative study regarding to Italian models which also analyzes these statues within their context in the early years of Romanization.
