José María Luzón Nogué

There exists a great deal of reasons why Itálica is an outstanding city among Roman sites in Spain: it was the first stable settlement for citizens from the Italian Peninsula in the area, the hometown of emperors Trajano and Adriano as well as a must visit place for travelers, even for kings such as Felipe IV, Isabel II or Alfonso XIII. In this book, published by our Foundation, José María Luzón reviews the history of the archaeological site, a place that was once called Sevilla la Vieja, starting from the tales of voyagers and topographers in Renaissance period and ending with new ways to study the city through modern research techniques.
