Luis Méndez Rodríguez

The lecturer in Art History of the University of Seville, Luis Méndez, was awarded in 2010 the II Alfonso E. Pérez Sánchez International Prize for his study, co-published by our Foundation and Marcial Pons, on Hieronymus Köler's manuscript. Shortly before he died in 1573, this German man left a written document about his adventures in the quest for making a name for himself. He traveled all around Europe and visited important places such as Germany, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal or Spain. After arriving in Seville, Köler intended to sail to America, a wish he never met. His words contained not only his life experiences but also an enriching outlook of the historical context in the 16th century.
