The writings of four outstanding authors in travel literature are brought together in this volume to rediscover Seville through the eyes of these 19th century French travelers. Antonio Fernández Navarro, PhD in Philology of the University of Seville, compares the visions of the city by Alexandre Laborde, Prosper Merimée, Théophile Gautier and, Charles Davillier, and draws the limit where fiction merges with reality in their tales. His research reviews the art, monuments, worship, anthropological and ethnographic aspects, fairs and, public shows in Seville in 19th century taking as the starting point the writings of these four French travelers, as well as other authors’ experiences in the city such as Godard or Boissier, to mention a few examples.
